I got this comment by email from a friend. Brilliant writing Jackie - Dawson's play to the gallery and the political feeding frenzy - the gall of turning it into ‘sturgeon politicising covid’ is quite something - trump-like propagandists! So utterly pathetic when the actual events and decisions on COVID are what the bloody thing is supposed to be about. Treatment of Nicola Sturgeon has been appalling. It's like a mass hysteria conspiracy theory where unknown chit chat must contain secret plots or juicy items, when the actual facts of why and what decisions were made, and the result of them - seem somehow less important. Douglas Ross was typically pathetic on backing vocals - but at least someone had the decency to call him a fucking wanker live on channel 4 news!

It was such a strange hearing, which I think reflected a lack of understanding about devolution? Yes, different decisions were taken by different governments, just like in other decentralised states. California had different rules than Florida, Quebec and Alberta, etc... I also feel really uncomfortable with the “who said a bad word on WhatsApp...” Like surely if the intention is to identify lessons learned for future pandemics, the use or misuse of WhatsApp isn’t wholly relevant? And Covid was inherently political - it was about power, distribution of resources, decisions with sweeping consequences - and those decisions were taken in light of both the devolved structures and the dynamic between the UK and devolved governments.
