Well done Jackie- far from needing an apology your article and this follow up raised a whole lot of interesting points of discussion that need approached with an open minded attitude - which you’ve shown throughout.

Trust in our profession again takes a media hammering from superficial 'analysis' from individual 'experts'/ commentators with self-interested 'skin in the education system game'- or their own ideological (usually anti-comprehensive) agendas- who are way too far removed from the realities of classrooms to impact in any positive way on pupil attainment and who, in their own 'writings', offer very little, if any, in relation to workable, costed solutions to drive further improvements.

I would encourage any readers of Jackie's post to take some time to read a small selection of recent HMIE school reports- where there is a consistent high level of pupil and parent satisfaction with individual school provision- to get a true flavour of what is happening at the chalkface.
