Well done writing this article. Great have the comparative data with Manchester. Also, great to remind everyone that Glasgow’s diminished tax base was the direct result of Tory government policy. Does Holyrood have the courage to reverse it?

It wouid be great for them to do something on that score

Yes I really appreciated this bit. It was something I’d heard anecdotally when I lived in Glasgow (and was plausible when looking at the boundaries) but had never read a properly researched account of it.

Yes, Glasgow may well be doing better than Manchester, but those of us on the periphery feel the effects of the centralisation around our "second city". That's the chip on my shoulder.

So would you like the North Easy to have a metro mayor?

What a great piece Jackie!

Perhaps Mr Burnham and his ilk should take a long hard look at themselves when taking a side swipe at Glasgow given his party's hand in maintaining the appalling levels of poverty in parts of the city when they deliberately withheld the oil revenues that could so have been used to alleviate it. If Ian Lang gerrymandered the constituencies, it was Labour that led the charge to deceive Scotland about her real wealth.

Might give the northern parts more cohesion m- we used to have a regional council.

Good point. Aberdeen needs more regeneration for sure
