It was interesting to see on the front page of the FT last week visitors to COP26 complaining that the nearest accommodation to the conference was in Edinburgh, 45 miles away.
I got this comment from my uncle David Kemp via emal : "Not that it matters a jot, but the kilted hitchhiker who refused the lift to Edinburgh was actually coming from Barcelona. My friend it happened to was the late Norman Buchan, the MP, who'd been at a European Cup game, and a detail I always liked was that the hitcher was clinging to a palm tree by the side of the route nationale sept to keep himself upright!"
