I edited this slightly to make it easier to read by putting the aside about the Black Christ in a footnote.
Loved that. Is gumboot an African word, or a contraction of gum boot (North American for wellie)?
Thank you Tim. I really enjoyed researching and writing it. It’s probably gum boot - Wellington is maybe a brand name like Hoover?
Wellington boots are named after the Duke of Wellington, who wore tall boots. My question was frivolous unless Gumboot is performed in rubber boots.
I loved reading this!! I’ve never heard of Gumboot before but will definitely look into it, dance is so beautiful in how it can uplift and connect, thank you!!💗
Thank you so much. It’s great to have feedback like that. I loved writing and researching it too
