This is a fascinating read, thank-you. A lot chimes here from what I know from my time working at the SCRAM office - even though that was several years later, post Chernobyl.
For those who don't know, SCRAM is the Scottish Campaign to Resist the Atomic Menace. Part of the anti-nuclear movement that Willie McRae was involved in. If I remember rightly, SCRAM's offices on Forth Street in Edinburgh were burglarised around the time of McRae's death. Nothing (including the petty cash lying around) was taken, but whoever went in had a good look round.
I'm sure that the folk who were there at the time can add more.
