I posted this on FB this morning and it was promptly removed as being against community standards. They said "looks like you tried to get likes, follows, shares or video views in a misleading way". I have appealed because I never post anything for any other reason than it is of interest to me.
I know, I got the same thing when I posted this piece. I then posted just a screenshot of the piece and said it was available on Substack and that worked OK. Thanks very much for liking and sharing it anyway, I am glad you enjoyed it. I think the big picture points are sometimes lost in the day to day news agenda which is very much driven by process.
But the the Thatcher years and poll-tax were hardly a high-water point- and arguably tipped the balance towards devolution in a way which the current status quo would not allow------
Yes. I think it might have been better for the UK to introduce the Assembly that Scotland voted for in 1979. Those long years with no form of home rule really embedded the divide.
Good article. And I did not know about Arnold's book. I'll be reading about Meta with interest. She was an inspiration to a very young English teacher, three doors down.
Jackie is quite correct on the point that England /,westminster is the boss and likes to show it! It is ironic indeed that 'better together' and the two main english parties in 2014 claimed that the best way for scots to stay in the EU was to remain in the Union. But the position of WM is not sustainable, and the younger voters will carry the day in the end. Indeed I also agree that remaining in tje Union as a subserviant nation is increasingly unattractive!
It's OK, so far, on Twitter

I know I am now in exile.

Thank you Leslie, yes I’m sure you’ll enjoy the book. Regards
If the SNP lose voters to Labour, I'd be very surprised. There isn't a hair's breadth between them, Sir Keir is so far to the right.
If the SNP do drop MPs, it will be because Tory and Labour voters collude to defeat them.

I agree with a lot that Jackie says in her article about Scotland being subservient to England, particularly now that we have left the EU.
